Over the years more and more YA novels have been adapted into motion pictures.  From J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter to Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series, it’s anyone’s guess which book will be the next feature film. The following is a list of YA novels that readers can expect to see on the big screen in the near future.

 

Seventeen-year-old Hadley misses her flight to London. She meets Oliver, a British boy, who ends up sitting in the same row as her. When the plane eventually lands in London, Hadley and Oliver lose each other in the crowded airport. 
The film is in pre-production and expected to be released in 2016. Hailee Steinfeld will be playing the part of Hadley, and Robert Sheehan will be starring as Oliver. Dustin Lance Black, Executive Producer of MILK, will be directing the teenage romance, drama.

Riggs’ YA mystery was on the New York Times bestseller list for over two years. A family tragedy marks a journey for teenager Jacob. When Jacob comes across a desolate, run-down building, he begins to explore what was once known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The investigation leads him to discover that these children may have been dangerous, and they may still be alive.
The release date for this adventurous fantasy is set for March 4, 2016. Along with a wonderful cast that includes stars such as Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson, and Allison Janney, A Nightmare Before Christmas’sTim Burton will be directing the film. 

 

Earth is mostly demolished after four waves of brutal attacks by extra-terrestrials. Cassie, alone with nothing but a survival pack, desperately tries to reconnect with her younger brother who was lost after the fourth wave.
January 15, 2016 marks the release date for this YA sci-fi thriller. Kickass’s Chloë Moretz will star as Cassie Sullivan, along with Ray Donovan’s Liev Schreiber as Colonel Vosch. The film will be directed by writer/director J. Blakeson.

 

Meg, Charles, and Calvin set out to rescue Meg’s father who is lost in space and time in this exhilarating YA novel.
The YA novel will be adapted by Jennifer Lee, writer and co-director of Disney’s Frozen, and produced by Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand. The release date and director are undetermined at this time.
Clay returns home to find a box on his doorstep with a cassette tape inside made by his crush Hannah Baker, who recently committed suicide. Hannah explains that there are 13 reasons why she ended her life and Clay is one of them.
Jay Asher’s debut novel is to be produced by Strike Entertainment and July Moon Productions. It has been confirmed that singer/actress Selena Gomez will be cast as Hannah Baker. The release date, along with the rest of the cast is to be announced.

 

Sofia Flores is new in town and is taken in by the popular girls at school. Her new friends talk Sofia into helping them perform an exorcism on a girl they believe to be possessed.
Although the release date is yet to be determined, Lionsgate has purchased the rights to the feature film. Pretty Little Liars’ I. Marlene King is set to direct the YA thriller. Les Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton of Alloy Features will produce Vega’s debut novel. 

 

Lennie Walker enjoys living in the shadow of her older sister; but when her sister suddenly dies, Lennie is forced to start living her own life. 
Nelson’s YA drama has been in production since April, and it’s been determined that Yann Samuell will be directing the film. Singer/actress Selena Gomez will be producing the film and is likely to star as 17-year-old Lennie Walker.

 

Fifteen-year-old Bee Fox’s mother goes missing after Bee aces her report card and is promised a family trip.
Richard Linklater, director of Oscar winning film Boyhood, has decided to make Semple’s YA novel his next project. The Hunger Games’Nina Jacobson will be producing the film, along with American Hustle’s Megan Ellison. The cast and release date are yet to be determined.
 
 
 
 This YA novel was featured in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as one of the required textbooks for first year students. The book is a comprehensive list that introduces all of the magical beasts in the non-Muggle world.
This adventuresome film will be coming to theaters on November 18, 2016 and will be available to view in 2D or 3D. David Yates will be directing, and Warner Bros. Pictures will be the studios associated with the film. The cast will include Jenn Murray, Colin Farrell, and The Theory of Everything’s Eddie Redmayne.

Matthew Quick’s riveting YA novel is to be directed by Magic Mike’s Reid Carolin and 21 Jump Street’s Channing Tatum. Carolin and Tatum will also be producing the film, along with Peter Kiernan.
